It Ain’t Over Yet, Y’all. We STILL Can’t Breathe…

On the day they finally upped the charges against the cop who pressed his knee down on George Floyd's windpipe for over 8 minutes, I wrote a tiny post for Medium. Expressing exactly how I felt at the time.

Today, as I think about Trump trying to give an speech about "race," after tweeting that a 75-year-old man brutalized by the police was probably an "ANTIFA provocateur"trying to "black out" police communications equipment...

Today, as I think about all those Republican members of Congress who still won't condemn him for things like that--or pass laws to stop the police from choking another Black man to death or fracturing another elder's skull...

Today, as I realize that even with people marching in every state in the country and almost every country in the world, trying to finally say what has never been said and do what has never been done...

...we still may not make it to that mountaintop Dr. King spoke of. So...here's the little Medium plea, just as I wrote it that day, when I tried to be happy...but couldn't.

We're encouraged to speak in our "Own Voices" now, us writers--that's the new hashtag they've got for us now. That, too, may pass...

But here's what I said, the way I said it. The way I felt it. Can you feel it, too?

Yes, we got some of what we wanted. And I cried like many of you, too, today.

But I’m still Black.

And I’m still in danger.

Let’s celebrate this one victory. And then keep on steppin’ together ’til me and my brothers and sisters don’t have to be scared all the time anymore.

Just sayin’…
